Blue Owl closes €1.6bn European net lease fund targeting data centers
Blue Owl Capital announced the final close of its inaugural European net lease fund (OREF Europe) with €1.6 billion (US$1.8 billion) in commitments, exceeding its original €1.0 billion target and previous hard cap of €1.5 billion. The fund will acquire single-tenant net-leased real estate and infrastructure assets including mission-critical industrial, data center, and essential retail properties from investment-grade tenants. While data centers are not in the near-term pipeline due to grid constraints in major European hubs, the fund operates within Blue Owl's Real Assets platform alongside its Digital Infrastructure division, which owns or is constructing 140 data centers with 15.3 GW of capacity.
Meta announces $50B AI data center in Louisiana, largest in company history
Meta is building a $50 billion artificial intelligence data center across 6 square miles in Richland Parish, Louisiana, along the Mississippi Delta in the state's northeast corner. The project, publicly announced in December 2024 after nine months of secret negotiations, will be financed through a separate entity called Beignet LLC with Wall Street investor Blue Owl providing the bulk of capital; Meta will lease the facility rather than own it outright. The data center will be powered by dedicated natural gas turbines supplied by Entergy Louisiana and will employ 1,000 full-time workers once operational, with the company investing $1 billion in local infrastructure and $5 million in community college job training.
