Lawsuit filed to void approvals for Grayslake data center
Residents and property owners represented by the Preservation of Community Well-being Collective filed a lawsuit against the Village of Grayslake, developer T5 Data Centers, and landowner Alter Asset Management Company on August 7, 2026, seeking to invalidate 2024-2025 approvals and void development agreements for the planned T5 @ Chicago IV data center on a 640-acre business park site. The lawsuit was announced by the Lake County Illinois Data Center Opposition Coalition, which formed to oppose the project citing concerns about air pollution from diesel generators, water contamination risks, noise and light pollution, and environmental impacts including potential wetland damage. The plaintiffs seek a declaration that approvals be made invalid, a judgment vacating those approvals, and an injunction prohibiting further permits. T5 CEO Pete Marin said the company has followed all laws and regulations and will respond through the legal system.
