Walloon minister refuses Google permit to draw Sambre water for Farciennes data centre
François Desquesnes, the Walloon minister of Territory, refused Google a permit to pump water from the Sambre River to cool its planned data centre at Farciennes, Belgium, citing climate change and precautionary principles. The decision overrode an earlier positive recommendation from the Walloon administration's hydraulic authority. Google retains the right to appeal the decision.
