  RNP commissions Ceará National Data Center in Fortaleza with V.tal and Tecto

  RNP (Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa), V.tal and Tecto Data Centers commissioned the Centro Nacional de Dados do Ceará (CND-CE) in Fortaleza on 25 August 2026. The facility, deployed on Tecto's TFOR3 data centre, features Tier III infrastructure with 100 Gb/s redundant links to RNP's Ipê backbone and will support research institutions' high-performance computing, AI, machine learning and scientific data processing needs. The centre expands RNP's national data-centre infrastructure beyond existing São Paulo and Brasília facilities and will serve over 600 research and education institutions connected to the RNP network. A Technical Cooperation Agreement between RNP and V.tal was signed alongside the launch.

  Tecto, the data-center operation of V.tal, has initiated deployment of optical infrastructure to interconnect its TFOR2 and TFOR3 facilities in Fortaleza, Brazil. The project uses an 864-fiber cable with Lightera's rollable ribbon technology, allowing high-density fiber packing within existing ducts without network replacement. The infrastructure supports growth in AI, cloud computing, and data processing workloads for hyperscalers and large-scale digital-service operators. V.tal handles engineering and installation; Lightera provides cables and technical support.

  Claro announces 256-GPU AI data centre in São Paulo for 2027

  Claro Empresas announced plans to install 256 GPUs at its São Paulo data centre beginning early 2027, offering fractional GPU capacity sold hourly and billed in Brazilian reais. The operator estimates pricing 50% lower than international alternatives due to local processing and targets regulated sectors including financial institutions and government entities seeking data sovereignty. The facility requires infrastructure upgrades to power and cooling systems; GPU equipment is currently overseas pending installation. Claro partnered with Nvidia and Oracle and is commercializing the service alongside proprietary AI tools including Claro STT, a voice-transcription product.

Costa brings over 25 years of experience in data-centre infrastructure, most recently as Director of Data Center Infrastructure Operations at Takoda Data Centers (three years) and previously at TIVIT (22 years). He will oversee operational processes, service delivery, and support for the company's expansion across multiple countries.
