Crusoe signs $13bn cloud deal with Jane Street
Quantitative trading firm Jane Street has signed a $13 billion cloud computing contract with Crusoe, a data centre developer and cloud provider, to access GPUs via Crusoe's cloud platform. The five-year agreement is reportedly the largest cloud contract Crusoe has signed to date. The deal comes as Jane Street has been rapidly expanding its compute capacity, having previously signed a $6bn agreement with CoreWeave in April.
Trump attacks data centre opponents as wanting to be 'backwards and poor'
US President Donald Trump attacked opponents of artificial intelligence data centers on August 31, saying they would end up "backwards and poor" and were helping China. The comments reflect a widening political rift over data centres ahead of November's midterm elections, with polls showing 70% of Americans opposed to building AI data centers in their area. Trump's Vice President JD Vance offered a more measured position, suggesting data centre opposition stems from concerns about higher electricity prices and that facilities should feed power back to the grid rather than drawing from it. The White House highlighted a $7 billion hyperscale data centre campus investment by OpenAI, Oracle and Related Digital in Michigan.
Claro announces 256-GPU AI data centre in São Paulo for 2027
Claro Empresas announced plans to install 256 GPUs at its São Paulo data centre beginning early 2027, offering fractional GPU capacity sold hourly and billed in Brazilian reais. The operator estimates pricing 50% lower than international alternatives due to local processing and targets regulated sectors including financial institutions and government entities seeking data sovereignty. The facility requires infrastructure upgrades to power and cooling systems; GPU equipment is currently overseas pending installation. Claro partnered with Nvidia and Oracle and is commercializing the service alongside proprietary AI tools including Claro STT, a voice-transcription product.
Nvidia takes minority stake in data-centre real estate firm Cloverleaf Infrastructure
Nvidia has acquired a minority stake in Cloverleaf Infrastructure, a data-centre real estate company developing sites based on Nvidia's DSX platform reference design. Cloverleaf operates a project pipeline exceeding 7 GW of power supply capacity across multiple sites, including facilities for Oracle and OpenAI in Wisconsin. The investment aims to deepen Nvidia's involvement in the data-centre ecosystem and support development of high-quality compute sites in the United States. Cloverleaf's current pipeline has reached over 10 GW in total development activity.
Bank of America announces $250B data center and infrastructure financing
Bank of America announced on August 13, 2026, a $250 billion infrastructure financing commitment over 18 months (January 2026–July 2027) covering data center construction, energy and power infrastructure, and related projects. The financing includes on-balance-sheet lending, project finance bonds, and equity and debt in public and private markets. A named example is a one-gigawatt $16 billion Michigan data center for Oracle and OpenAI in Saline Township, for which Bank of America structured the deal and provided $14 billion in debt financing. The bank frames the investment as addressing underinvestment in energy, power grids, transmission, water systems and manufacturing capacity needed for AI infrastructure and American competitiveness.
Quantinuum and Oracle announce hybrid quantum compute partnership for OCI
Quantinuum and Oracle announced a multi-year strategic partnership to deploy Helios, Quantinuum's third-generation quantum computer, inside a US-based Oracle Cloud Infrastructure AI data centre, enabling OCI customers to access quantum computing as a service alongside high-performance computing and GPU infrastructure.
