Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners breaks ground on Danish-owned data centre in Esbjerg
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Thylander, Plexar, and PensionDanmark held a groundbreaking ceremony on 13 August 2026 for Dansk Data Center 1 (DDC1), a new 11.5 MW colocation data centre at the Port of Esbjerg in southern Denmark. The facility is designed to integrate with the local energy system as both a flexible consumer and grid participant, equipped with advanced energy management and heat recovery for district heating. Construction began in August 2026 with expected commissioning in October 2027. The project is backed by PensionDanmark as lead investor and represents one of the first major data centres wholly owned and operated by Danish companies.
