Developer files zoning challenge for Pennsylvania data center projects
Brian O'Neill, founder of MLP Ventures, filed a validity challenge to Plymouth Township's zoning ordinance and a special exception application to permit a 2-million-square-foot data center at the site of the former Cleveland-Cliffs steel mill. The township's ordinance does not list data centers as a permitted use in heavy industrial zones, though it allows warehouses and laboratories. O'Neill is also developing a 4.5-million-square-foot data center campus in Upper Merion Township. The validity challenge claims the ordinance is exclusionary toward data centers, and the township council has expressed opposition to both moves, accusing O'Neill of bullying and intimidation.
