The service, priced at £400/month for 1Gbps introductory connectivity and up to 5Gbps for higher bandwidth, extends LINX's IX Connect programme and reverses an initial 2018 partnership that gave Tokyo networks London access. The route supports demand for Japanese anime, manga and gaming content among European networks and positions Tokyo as a major interconnection hub with 20+ international subsea cables.

  Housing Secretary approves Brick Lane data centre despite unanimous local opposition

  Housing Secretary Angela Rayner approved a £500 million mixed-use redevelopment of the Truman Brewery estate on Brick Lane in east London, overriding unanimous opposition from Tower Hamlets Council, the local mayor, and nine resident groups. The scheme includes a 5,200 sq ft data centre on Grey Eagle Street, five office buildings, residential units, retail and entertainment space. The approval, granted via ministerial recovery of planning appeals, was justified partly on grounds that data centres are designated Critical National Infrastructure in the UK as of September 2024, giving them additional regulatory weight in planning decisions.
