  Australian councils call for national data centre regulations at Senate inquiry

  Local councils across Australia testified before a Senate committee on Tuesday, saying they lack power to control data centre development on prime land. Councils including Willoughby, City of Sydney and others described projects threatening residential and commercial areas, including a facility 20 metres from houses in Lane Cove and developments displacing potential housing in Ultimo and Macquarie Park. While the federal government announced in August it would develop nationwide standards for data centres covering energy, water and land use, these have not yet been enacted. States including Victoria signalled moves to regulate data centre zoning and energy consumption.

  AirTrunk files environmental impact statement for AUD 3.7bn NSW data centre
