Singapore tables Digital Infrastructure Bill with data centre licensing requirements
Singapore's Parliament received the Digital Infrastructure Bill for First Reading on 10 September 2026. The proposed legislation establishes two licensing regimes administered by IMDA: one covering major co-location and cloud data centres with critical IT load of at least 10 MW and major cloud service providers generating at least S$100 million (US$79 million) in annual revenue from Singapore users, requiring operational resilience measures; and a second requiring all data centre operators with critical IT load of at least 3 MW to meet facility-level energy-efficiency requirements including Power Usage Effectiveness standards. The Bill covers technical failures, power and cooling issues, fires and other incidents, and will enforce strategic and environmental commitments made during capacity allocation.
Singapore launches liquid cooling standard for tropical data centers
Singapore released the Singapore Standard (SS) 726:2026, believed to be the world's first national standard for liquid cooling systems in tropical data centres. The standard was jointly developed by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Enterprise Singapore through the Singapore Standards Council in consultation with industry, and provides technical guidelines for data-centre operators to design, deploy and operate liquid cooling systems safely while managing tropical risks such as high temperatures, humidity and equipment corrosion. Liquid cooling can reduce energy consumption by more than 30 per cent and complements Singapore's Green Data Centre Roadmap for sustainable growth of data centres.
Singapore awards 800 MW to four data centre operators under DC-CFA2
Singapore's Economic Development Board and Infocomm Media Development Authority announced that Digital Realty, Equinix, Keppel Data Centres and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres have won allocations of 200 MW each under the second Data Centre Call for Application (DC-CFA2) exercise. The four winners were selected from 20 proposals through a competitive process and will develop facilities on Jurong Island at a 'Sustainable Data Centre Park'. All operators committed to exceed sustainability requirements, powering at least 50% of capacity from green energy sources and adopting advanced technologies including liquid cooling. The authorities indicated they will consider a third Call for Application in 18–24 months.

DayOne secures US$415m green loan for hydrogen-powered Singapore data centre
Singapore-based data-centre operator DayOne has secured a SGD 530 million (US$415 million) green loan from banks DBS, OCBC and UOB to finance its first data centre in Singapore. The 20 MW facility, SG1, located in western Singapore, will integrate Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) hydrogen power generation technology alongside vertical building-integrated photovoltaics and hybrid cooling. The facility broke ground in July 2025 and is expected to be operational by Q1 2027; it has already achieved BCA Green Mark Platinum (Provisional) certification in December 2025.
